Enrichment Fridays
Creekside Cooperative strives to enhance its students' education experience through enrichment classes which are organized and sponsored through its parent teacher organization, Creekside PTO, Inc. Weekly Enrichment Friday class offerings include monthly Family Field Trips, site enrichment classes and a winter ski program.
Our Fall 2007 Enrichment Classes include:
ART (lead by Liz Hanly): Students engage in various art projects including collages, watercolor, charcoal, mosaics designing and creating murals in connection with ArtMiles.
DESTINATION IMAGINATION (lead by Josh Harris): Students will engage in the nation-wide curriculum and regional competition of this program which focuses on team building, problem solving and expanding the imagination.
GARDENING (lead by Rhonda Kreidler in conjunction with Master Gardeners): Students will plan, impelement, maintain and journal the newly established Creekside Edible Garden.
NUTRITION (lead by Stephenie Riley, ND): The concept of making wise choices in consumption and activities and how those choices impact the body's level of function and health is presented in age-appropriate methods with fun games, hands-on activites and discussion.
COOKING-HOT LUNCH: Each grade will have several opportunities over the course of the year to plan, prepare and serve a hot lunch to the student body. Students will harvest from the Edible Garden, visit the Farmers Market and discuss the importance of eating regionally and seasonally.
YOGA (lead by Nichole Hull): Students will be introduced to the practice of yoga and various age and skill appropriate positions, games and activities to improve circulation, posture and health.
ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES (lead by Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships): Students will discuss BMPs, the impact of development on the environment in the Tahoe Basin, and what actions can be taken on an individual and small group level to protect the health of our surroundings. Upper grades will plan and implement BMPs at the Creekside site under the direction of SWEP.
COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY (lead by Eric Olson and Derek Taylor: Students will be introduced to computer hardware, software and the internet, learning to conduct research, create word processing documents and basic typing skills.
ALPINE AND CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING (lead by Lynda Walsh and Shana Boyd): During the months January, February and March, enrichment can be found outside! On alternating weeks, Creekside students enjoy Alpine and Nordic skiing. Students are placed in small groups of similar skill, lead by volunteer parents. Tahoe Cross Country Ski is sponsoring our Nordic skiing by providing us use of their equipment and trails.
